The U.S. Needs an Honest, Intelligent, Assertive, Confident and Forceful President.
This article was written under a different title (see below) and ready to be published when I came across the news that the U.S. was the only country to veto the Gaza cease-fire resolution on Tuesday, Feb 20, 2024.This action of our government clearly affirms what I have been trying to bring to the attention of my compatriots. The British abstained, and the rest of the members voted for the resolution, including the French. Please read it and judge for yourself.
By our action in this international organization, our government informed the world that we, the Americans, are insensitive to the misery of the less fortunate people around the world and care less about their lives and existence, that we support the attitudes of individuals likes Hitler, Khomeini, Khamenei, Netanyahu, Putin and… What a disaster, can’t we do any better?
United States and the World
One Step Forward, Four Steps Back.
Probably, I am one of the few who has been disillusioned by what I am witnessing in the behavior and the progress of my adopted country. For every step forward, we take four steps back. I was eleven years old when WWII started on September 1939, and thirteen when my country, Iran, was occupied by the Allies in 1941. Churchill was adamant that the Anglo-Russians should take over Iran to maintain the flow of oil to the free world and stop the Germans entering the Middle East. According to the Associated Press, he got Franklin Delano Roosevelt on board, an allegation denied by the US State Department. Churchill also enticed Stalin to go along. In the beginning, the Russian dictator hesitated to follow Churchill’s idea. However, eventually, he agreed to follow the suggestion of the British leader.[1] I will elaborate on what I think was high in the Prime Minister’s mind and I believe that it was completely different from the excuses that he gave for attacking Iran: he despised Reza Shah and wanted to get his revenge. I shall write on this subject later.
What transpired during that war in Iran is a matter of history. The United States failed to use the opportunity to show its leadership. Instead, as usual, by following British policy, created a mess in Iran. Churchill was directly responsible for the USSR getting a foothold in my country and spreading communism in that area of the world. Most likely, the whole problem envisaged by the Prime Minister could have been avoided if Roosevelt had a minuscule knowledge of international politics. He failed to see the outcome of an attack on Iran as a global problem. By all existing evidence, Iran was ready to make a treaty with the Allies and let them use its territory to supply military hardware to the USSR. With such an agreement, they could achieve their goal and not subjected the region to communism.
Americans’ lack of discernible awareness in foreign policy has continued for decades and is still running on the same erroneous premises. The 1953 mess made by Eisenhower, and later, Carter’s disastrous decision in Iran (1978-79), George W. Bush’s engagements in Afghanistan (2001), and Iraq (2003), the eight years’ war between Iran and Iraq instigated by Americans (1980-1988), the Persian Gulf War (1990-1991), the involvement in Syria (2014) and Lebanon (2015), entanglement in Libya (2015), and so many more in other areas of the world that created the present enormous international upheaval for the United States.
The unconditional support of the U.S. government for Israel and the unquenchable thirst of the latter to grab more lands at the expense of the Palestinians is a major cause for the creation of terrorist groups. The present conflict between Hamas and Israel, the indiscriminating massacre of the Palestinians by the Israeli army, has caused a world cry against Israel and its biggest supporter, the United States. It caused the South African Government to bring Israel to the ICJ (International Court of Justice) for crime against humanity and genocide. What hold do the Israelis have over the American government? Our administrations, both Democrats and Republicans, failed drastically to handle these problems.
The Israeli hardliners, under Netanyahu, became so bold that they had no respect for the Americans who had supported them with all their might. These hardliners are only interested in the United States’ financial and military help. For confirmation on this note, look at the welcome speech of Netanyahu on the arrival of Mrs. Hilary Clinton, the Secretary of State in Tel Aviv, or listen to the address given by the Israel Prime Minister on the joint session of the Congress upon invitation of the majority leader John Boehner.
The recent conflict between Israel and Hamas has reached a disproportionate level. There is no question that Hamas committed atrocious crimes in its heinous attack on October 7. However, Israeli’s reprisal is entirely disproportionate to the crimes committed by Hamas. Over 29000 people (the most recent report), mostly children and women, have been killed in Gaza.
What makes the American administrations so blind and deaf that they can’t see or hear the world? Why can’t the U.S. feel the pain of the people in the developing nations and that our policies are making them victims of poverty, subservient, and a leading cause in destroying their self-respect? Why are we so resistant to the pain of others and driving them to criminal action? We have been depriving all small nations of their elementary human right and moving them to terroristic action while expecting them to act as a human in the face of all the problems that our actions have caused them.
In my previous note, I questioned if the Hamas attack of such magnitude to be a surprise to IDF (Israel Defense Forces), as they had claimed. The Times of Israel, January 20, 2024, reports that IDF surveillance reportd to their chain of command that they detected “unusual activities were noted at the borders, months before the attack. These surveillance soldiers are known as Tatzpitaniyot and belong to the combat intelligence corps. The reports were ignored, why? I brought up the question of the possibility of the Israeli government wanting such action to happen so they could attack Gaza, confiscate more land, and leave more Palestinians without a home.
In the same article, I discussed the problems encountered by the presidents of three major US universities. Under the financial pressure exerted by Israelis in our country, the president of Pennsylvania University resigned almost immediately after the conflict became known. The Board of Trustees of Harvard supported the position of its president. However, under the pressure of those Israelis whom I named “ Israel’s Fifth Column,” President Claudine Gay resigned from her position. These Israelis, who happened to be living in the United States, succeeded in imposing their desire on our government.
Again, I am not advocating that what has been alleged to have been done by these presidents was incorrect. I am concerned about removing them from the office “By Force of Money.” Remember the words of Lord Curzon in my last writing stating how to deal with Iranians: “We settle the case with cash…this policy will help in two ways…Buying friends, and through them making their country a vassal state.” Isn’t what is being done today in the U.S.?
Israel, with the backing of the U.S. and Britain, bluntly ignored all U.N. resolutions, onstraining effects on their action toward the Palestinians. Long ago, in one of my articles published in the Persian Heritage, I alluded to the Israeli government using a well-known medical tactic called the “Besredka method.”[2] to grab Palestinian lands by overtaking one House at a Time.”
It is noteworthy to see that the British, with all their disastrous action over significant parts of the world, suddenly became so humanitarian that the opposition Labor Party cut its support from their own candidate because of the latter’s comment that the Israel government was aware of the Hamas attack and let it happen to allow them to occupy Gaza[3].
Here, we notice that at least two leading countries continuously advocate freedom of speech and thought but will act the opposite when it is to their advantage. What has happened to those big words: FREEDOM OF SPEECH, FREEDOM OF THOUGHTS.
Mr. Azhar Ali, the labor candidate, apologized for his comment. I can’t see why. If he is a man with integrity and has expressed his opinion, why should he be sorry for explaining his views? The party’s opponents began using the same tactic and screaming on the same old hymn. Ali’s comments were not “antisemitic.” Stating a possible fact that does not appeal in Netanyahu’s circle is suddenly interpreted as antisemitic—the same old trick, the same old scam.
Mr. Netanyahu, in his many speeches, indicated that he represents a sovereign country and is entitled to do what he feels necessary. He is right in his assumption. My problem is not with Netanyahu; it is with our administration, our elected officials, the senators, the representatives of the House, most of our news outlets, and our appointed officials, who, in my opinion, several of whom, in my opinion seem to be more concerned with the welfare of Israel than those of their own country.
Can’t our president see what is happening in Gaza and how many innocent people are being murdered for reasons that they had no power to stop? Why does he refrain from taking steps to force Israel to abide by international laws? How much must we pay Israelis for their so-called friendship? We hear a lot that, “ Israel is the most valuable ally of the United States in the Middle East.” In my cursory search in the media, I failed to find anything tangible in this respect.
Post Hamas attack on Israel last October, the president of the United States immediately requested Congress to approve a fourteen billion dollar help for Israel. Why this pork barrel spending? What measure did he used to determine that exact amount? What reason, if any, can he give the American taxpayers for using their hard-earned cash without informing them of the details of his action?
Senior Americans are hard-pressed with the daily increases in their medical expenses. Drug costs are skyrocketing. Yet we must give billions to a government that shows no respect for us except through cheap talk. Why does our news media not tell the nation the truth about what is happening? Is it because foreign organizations own them as well?
The late Shah of Iran brought this subject up during interviews with Mike Wallace in the mid-1970s. . He clearly stated that foreign governments, specifically Israel, have significant roles in the policy-making decisions of the United States. I urge everyone to see those interviews and listen to the conversations; they are priceless and educational.
