Russia and Ukraine- Are we on the Verge of Another War?

Events in 2022 are reflecting those of 1930’s Europe

Is Putin Playing Hitler’s Role?

This writing will appear, at the same time, on both the Persian and English parts opf my blog

A step back in history; reviving Hitler and his era! Are the disaster of WWII and the atrocities committed by Nazi Germany forgotten? Is Russia becoming a new Nazi Germany? Is Putin the ghost of Hitler in the twenty-first century? The big and so-called powerful nations are remaining dumb, mute, and reacting lightly to the crimes committed by Kremlin. Why the US President, the British Prime Minister, and the French President are acting as Mr. Chamberlain did in 1938? Putin is following almost exactly the 1930s Hitler’s footsteps. These are a few words to refresh your memories of those days that ended up with WWII.

      –     On January 30, 1933, Hitler became the German Chancellor;

  • On March 12, 1933, the first Concentration Camp opened at Oranienburg, outside of Berlin;
  • On April 1, 1933, the Nazis boycotted Jewish-owned shops– The World Remains Blind and mute!
  • On June 5, 1933, Hitler opened Dachau;
  • August 1, 1934, Hindenburg, Germany’s President dies;
  • August 19, 1934, Hitler becomes the Fuhrer of Germany;
  • February 10, 1935, Hitler violates the terms of the Versailles Treaty;
  • On September 15, 1935, Hitler stripped German Jews of their rights. Again the world remained blind to what was coming next;
  • March 12-13, 1938, Hitler announces Anschluss with Austria, the first invasive act;
  • August 12, 1938: British Prime Minister Chamberlain meets Hitler in Munich, and Hitler sells him a bill of goods;
  • October 15, 1938, Hitler invades Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia;
  • March 15, 1939: Hitler invades Czechoslovakia;
  • September 1, 1939, Hitler attacks Poland;
  • On September 3, 1939, Britain, France, and Australia declared war on Germany-
  • On September 10, 1939, Canada declared war on Germany;
  • On September 17, 1939, the Soviets attacked Poland;
  • On December 14, 1939, the League of Nations expelled the Soviets.On November 30, 1939, the Soviet attacks Finland

From 1933 to 1938, the world watched Germany’s aggression and remained indifferent to what was going on until he attacked Poland.

Now let us evaluate what the Russians are doing?

Under its nature, Russia will never understand the meaning and implication of DIPLOMACY. During the tsarist, it was a dictatorial community and remained the same during the communist to the present eras. Therefore, expecting anything different from that nation and its governments is nothing but an effort in futility.

Like other Russian head honchos, Putin understands only one language, the language of force. Therefore, punishing Russians by implementing sanctions will achieve no purpose.

Now, a note about the new world dictator and his accomplishments:

  • 1970, Putin started working in Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti, or Committee for State Security (KGB);
  • 1991 Resigned from active KGB reserve;
  •  1998 Became the head of Federal Security Service (FBS);
  • Appointed Prime Minister of Russia by President Yeltsin;
  • Elected President in March of the same year;
  • Re-elected president in 2004;
  • In 2008, Dmitry Medvedev became president, and he appointed Putin as the Prime Minister;
  • 2012, Putin won a six years term presidency;
  • In 2018, Putin was re-elected president and still serving that term;
  • In 2008, Russia had a five-day war with Georgia, supporting the break-away states of South Ossetia and the Federal State of Abkhazia. Which to the present, the Georgian consider them as their states;
  • In 2014 Russia annexed Crimea;
  • On February 19, 2022, Putin’s army attacked Ukraine.

Today, some eighty years after WWII, and in the third decade of the 21st century, we observe the president of Russia repeating what Hitler did in the 1930s and forties.

Chechnya

During the 1990s and the first decade of 2000, Russians managed to entertain two wars with the small country of Chechnya. A country located between Dagestan, Georgia, and Russia. It is a north Caucasian state, and its capital is Grozny. During these periods, Russia launched two wars against it: First war lasted from Dec. 1994 to Aug. 1996. Russia, under Boris Yeltsin, had to stop the war because of the inability to cope and the world opinion and unwillingness of the Russians.

Map of Chechnya

The second war started in Aug. 1999, to April 2000. Again the Russians could not achieve their goal and the war was stopped, a treaty could not be reached  until mid-2017. On the subject of the death toll in these wars, there no unanimity. In the first war, the estimated death of Chechnyan was between 3000-17390. The estimate for the second war is 25000-200,000 for Chechnya’s  and 8,000-40,000 for Russians.

Moldova:

Moldova is a small country located in the Balkans, between Ukraine in the east and north and Romania in the west. On November 2, 1990, Russia invaded Moldova in the Moldovan-Transnistria War. Russians remained in Moldova until July 21, 1992, making Transnistria a de facto independent state; however, the international community considers it part of Moldova.

Georgia:

Putin attacked Georgia, the so-called five days-war, in August of 2008 following a dispute between Russian supported South Ossetia and the Federal State of Abkhazia with the Georgians. Georgia got its freedom in 1991 after the dispersion of the Soviet regime.

Crimea:

In Feb and March 2014, Russians attacked and annexed the Crimean peninsula to Russia. On February 27, masked  Russian troops without insignia took over the Parliament of Crimea. In addition, Russia formerly incorporated Crimea as two federal subjects: the Republic of Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol on March 16, 2014. All these happened while Russia had a treaty of non-aggression with Ukraine. Following the annexation, the Russian military presence in the peninsula increased with the nuclear threat.

Ukraine-Crimea-Moldova and Russia

The G8 group suspended Russia and introduced the first round of sanctions against Russia, a futile and worthless undertaking, quite evident that nothing will come out of it. The UN played its puppet role, doing nothing and achieving nothing. Putin ignoring all international condemnation, adhere to a theory that his action was not an invasion but “an accession of Crimea to the Russian Federation.”

What is next on Putin’s agenda? Where to go after Ukraine? Romania, Poland? Finland or any other east European countries that cannot confront Soviet aggression? Is Putin trying to bring back the era of the USSR? What, if anything, the west is doing, except talk, a cheap and worthless commodity?

The countries like my country of birth, Iran, that have suffered from foreign aggression for centuries can visualize the sinister steps of the Kremlin on the Ukrainian back door. Does it matter which colonizing government is on your back door? The British,  The French, The American, or any other. They all are the same.

Iran has suffered from British and Russian colonialism for several centuries, each having its distinct methodology to rob the weaker nations. The Iranian proverb for the British is: “Be aware of the British. They cut your throat with a piece of cotton.” They also say prepare to fight Russians since they understand no diplomacy. As I have alluded in many of my writings and on different occasions, “Russian will understand only one language, that of FORCE.”

All said the most critical element lies in the target nations. No colonialism can take place in any nation without help from within. For example, during Iranian occupation by Anglo-Russian forces in1941, the Soviets began implementing puppet governments in the two states of the country: Azerbaijan and Kurdistan. Traitors in those two states were happy to carve their country into pieces to be president or king.

The Russians found Jaafar Pishehvri and his associates in Azerbaijan and helped them create an independent state. They have done the same for Iranian Kurdistan under the leadership of Serokkomar Ghazi Mohammad. The Soviets blocked the Iranian army to liberate those two states.

In 1946, shortly after WWII, Iran took its grievances with Russians to the Security Council of the United Nations. With the help of the United States, specifically Mr. Truman, Russians were forced to leave Iran. The Iranian government was able to send its troop to remove those puppets.

In Ukraine, Putin’s excuse is to protect the Russians living in the country, and he has the help of those who prefer to be a servant of Russia than to protect the integrity of their country. They are the same as Pishehvri and Ghazi Mohammad.

Like many others, I wonder why the Security Consul does not consider the matter under consideration. Why the mighty nations are not taking serious steps to confront Putin and his aggression? Are they afraid that their action may contribute to war? It seems that eventually, that is what will happen, maybe not in the immediate future. If the western nations hope to convince Putin to stop his aggression with diplomacy and dialogue,  they wasteing precious time. History shows that Russians never take their promises seriously and have never adhered to their words, treaties and contracts. For example, they had a non-aggression treaty with Poland in the 1930s but attacked that nation in 1939.

Another great danger facing the western nations is Chinese behavior. Will they follow Putin’s footsteps? They have already made their first adventure in the Pacific Ocean, ignoring all international boundaries and interfering with the smaller nations’ affairs. The West must decide whether they can afford having another Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini in twenty first century. The sanctions are not enough of a deterrent.

Dear President Biden, Prime Minister Johnson and President Macron; you have to wake up. Praying will not alleviate the pain and suffering of the Ukrainians or any nations under siege. They need military equipment, financial help and most possibly foot soldiers. Do not allow the mirage of your immediate welfare blind you of the dangers ahead. China (a GIANT that your governments have created) following Russia, constitutes the greatest hazard to the future wellbeing  of the world.
